Using Crib Bedding Safely

Once you’ve chosen the perfect bedding for your baby’s crib, the last step is being sure you know how to help keep your baby safe while using the crib.  According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, there are some simple steps you can take to help create a safe environment while your baby is sleeping.  They recommend that you remove soft bedding, including bumper pads, quilts and comforters before your baby is put down in the crib.  One suggestion is to use either a sleeper, or a sleep sack instead of a thin blanket.   If you are using a thin blanket, they suggest tucking the blanket under the mattress and only placing the blanket as high as your baby’s chest to keep him from becoming entangled in the blanket.  For more details, please visit HealthyChildren.org.

Sleep Sacks

Sleep Sacks are one of the most popular parenting products designed in recent years, for good reason!  Sleep sacks keep your baby covered and warm all night long, eliminating the need for blankets in your crib.  Many safety experts recommend keeping blankets out of your baby’s crib to prevent them from becoming tangled or from pulling the blankets over their faces.  Sleep sacks give you the best of both worlds: a blanket-like cover for your baby that stays in place all night long!  Chose from sleep sacks designed for all climates, with different weight ratings and fabric types so you can keep your baby perfectly comfortable.

Using Sleep Sacks

Nothing is more important than your baby’s health and safety.  The American Academy of Pediatrics has made specific recommendations designed to help you make the right choices for your baby’s safety while they are sleeping.  One of the recommendations is to avoid any soft bedding in your baby’s crib.  If you’d like to do this but are concerned about keeping your baby covered, a sleep sack might be the perfect thing for you!  Sleep sacks are recommended as an alternative to blankets that prevent the baby from becoming tangled or from covering his face during sleep times.  For more details, please visit: HealthyChildren.org

Receiving Blankets

Receiving blankets are essential for the first year of every baby’s life.  These traditional blankets are multipurpose, so a big stack of them on the change table will make parent’s lives easier.  Receiving blankets can be used to swaddle babies, or they can be thrown over your shoulder to catch spit up.  They make a light cover for warm nights and are perfect for a floor mat when baby’s ready for some play time.  One of the best features of receiving blankets is that they are easily washable, so it’s easy to keep tons of them clean and on hand!

Swaddling Blankets

Many parents find that their babies love to be swaddled, especially as newborns.  There’s a bit of a trick to learn how to swaddle, so parents are often being shown the baby burrito method before they’ve left the hospital.  Blankets made specifically for swaddling can simplify the process, making it faster and easier to swaddle your baby.  Swaddling blankets are designed in ways that make it foolproof to wrap the baby and that minimize the amount of fabric your baby is wrapped in so he’s always comfortable.  With lots of different designs, you can choose the right swaddling blanket for every baby!
