What a week it has been for the royal family! This week Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed their new son to the world: His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge. The Daily Mail notes that the name George has a long royal history, with six previous reigning Georges. It is also Prince Charles’ middle name, and the Sovereign name of Queen Elizabeth’s father, George VI. Alexander is likely a nod to the Queen, whose middle name is Alexandra, and Louis is Prince William’s middle name. Betting bookies have reported that George was the top pick if the Duke and Duchess had a son.
Just one day after his birth, the proud new parents introduced Prince George to the public on the steps of St. Mary’s Hospital, after having had the birth announced in typically royal fashion: by official Town Crier. Kate stood alongside her husband, cradling their bundled-up baby boy, as hundreds of fans and photographers, many of whom had been camped outside the hospital for days waiting for this moment, snapped away.
“It’s a very special time,” revealed 31-year-old Kate.
“He’s got a good pair of lungs on him, that’s for sure,” laughed William. “He’s got her looks and way more [hair] than me, thank God!”
The arrival of the new Prince, who is third in line to the throne, has been met with celebration across the world. As per tradition, a 41-gun royal salute marked the baby’s arrival, and bells rang out at Westminster Abbey, controlled by the same three ringers on duty when Prince William was born.
Excitement has always swirled around Kate and her fashion sense, and already the same speculation has extended to Kate and William’s baby. His first swaddle has been reported: an organic cotton design by Australian brand Aden + Anais. If you’re curious as to how to select baby gifts, be assured that Prince George will certainly be leading the pack in terms of quality blankets! Personalized embroideries on blankets will add a regal touch to any baby blanket. The little Prince himself might do well with a personalized lion blanket, seeing as he is the King of the Jungle. Other creative gifts for expecting mothers who want to dress a prince or princess of their own include elegant shoes adorned in gold leaf, personalized with name and birthdate. For indoor wear, sweet socks with formal bows patterned on will keep baby’s feet warm and cozy. While not every birth announcement is quite as dramatic as Prince George’s, moms and dads around the world want to pamper their little ones with blankets and layettes fit for royalty!
